Eco-Chic: The Green Benefits of our Natural Deodorants

Natural deodorants are more than just good for your body; they’re better for the environment too! The use of only natural ingredients in our deodorants means we’re in tune with the environment and nature, we think our planet is beautiful, and we’d like to keep it that way.

At Crystal Spring we try our best to be ‘green’ and we think you’ll find that our ingredients and packaging on our Salt of the Earth deodorants are very kind to the environment.

Natural Deodorants Contain NO Nasty Chemicals

The use of all-natural ingredients in our entire Salt of the Earth deodorant range means that no harmful chemicals are making their way into our eco-systems, both in production and use. Some chemicals are known to release a lot of carbon emissions during production such as Mineral Oils, while others are damaging to wildlife and plant-life; triclosan and formaldehyde for example.

When such chemicals are used in deodorants not only can they make their way into the environment during the production process but they may continue to leak in to the environment when they are being used. During use, chemicals from deodorants and other cosmetics often find their way into the Marine environment, through washing and waste, which can be extremely damaging to the wildlife there. There are many chemicals, regularly used in cosmetics that are very eco-UNfriendly.

Here are just two of the culprits:

Aluminum – the active ingredient in many antiperspirants, it works by clogging pores under the armpit to stop sweat. It is a known water pollutant and can damage the ecosystem and its wildlife.

Triclosan – an antimicrobial agent used in many cosmetics. Over the years, this chemical has been continuously accumulating in our streams and rivers.

Other potentially damaging chemicals include parabens, formaldehyde, diethanolamine and mineral oils.

Natural Deodorant's Can Be Very Economical

Our Salt of the Earth Classic deodorants are very economical and if used as directed can last from 6 months to a year! This is friendly to your purse and our planet, since it cuts down on the amount of packaging used and waste thrown out compared to deodorants that last only a month or two.

Crystal Spring Natural Deodorants are Packed in Recyclable Packaging

Our deodorant packaging is made from plastic that can be recycled; HDPE. This plastic does NOT biodegrade in a landfill environment however. We don’t think this is a bad thing as it will encourage people to recycle and cut down on waste. You can recycle after use in your personal recycling bins or you can take it to a recycling centre. Be sure to check with your local waste management provider first.

We’re big on recycling in the office too. Personally, I like to make new things out of old things other people would class as ‘junk’. If you’re like me and are feeling a bit handy, you can reuse your natural deodorant packaging for other things. The crystal rock deodorant packaging for example can be used as a little plant holder; for a cactus perhaps? You can even prettify the bottle with some recycled fabric and a bit of ribbon, or if you’re a dab hand you could paint the bottle…the possibilities are endless.

The spray deodorant bottles can be reused for other cosmetics or you can turn it into a little water spray for your new indoor plant (make sure you rinse it out thoroughly first, plants aren't too keen on salt)!

Be sure to let us know of any other ideas you have with reusing your packaging.

  • One happy mummy :) on

My daughter started to get body odour early, aged 6. This roll on rock chic stick has been a miracle cure. I didnt think anything would work. I was scared I wouldnt find anything chemical free, child friendly that would actually work but this has been an absolute Godsend. She will run about and sweat all day and not one day have I ever smelt body odour from her, even in the hottest of days. I definitley recommend this and it lasts soooooo long. Well worth the money.
